Common questions

Working with The Resume Writers, answered.

We deliver every engagement remotely — Microsoft Teams, phone, or email — supporting clients across Australia from our Hobart office. Below are the questions we get asked most often by clients in capital cities and regional centres alike.

Are you actually based in this city, or is this a remote service?

We're based in Hobart, Tasmania, and we deliver every engagement remotely via Microsoft Teams, phone, or email. We're not pretending to be local — we're an Australian business with a single Hobart office, supporting clients in every capital city and regional centre across the country. The location pages on our website exist because we genuinely deliver work for clients in those cities; the writing happens from Hobart.

Why use a Hobart-based service instead of a writer in my city?

Local presence isn't an advantage in resume writing — sector experience is. Our two senior writers, Jacquie Liversidge and Marc Cayzer, have between them written for executives, public servants, healthcare professionals, technical specialists and graduates across every Australian capital. Working remotely lets us serve a much broader cross-section of the market than any single-city operator, which means we've seen more sectors, more career stages, and more application types than the local generalist down the road. The work is the work, regardless of postcode.

How do consultations work if you're not local?

Microsoft Teams is our default — most clients prefer it because it works on any device and lets us share screens to walk through documents in real time. Phone calls are also available if you'd rather skip video. The one-hour information call we run as part of every engagement is the same whether you're in Melbourne, Perth or a regional town: we ask the questions, you answer them, and we capture everything we need. There's no functional difference between meeting us in person and meeting via Teams — except you save the commute.

How long does the engagement take from start to finish?

Standard turnaround is three business days from payment to first drafts, with a 14-day unlimited-revisions window after that. Most engagements settle in two or three review rounds, so a typical end-to-end runs about three weeks from payment to final sign-off. Urgent turnaround at 24 or 48 hours is available for an additional fee. We don't queue your engagement behind ten others — when payment lands, drafting begins immediately.

What does it cost?

Pricing depends on the document type, the level of role you're targeting, and the complexity of the work involved. A senior-tier resume with LinkedIn rebuild sits in a different bracket to a graduate cover letter. Our prices page details the tiers, and every engagement is quoted up-front before any payment — no surprise charges, no per-revision fees. Bank transfer or credit card via invoice. We don't take payment before the one-hour information call so you can confirm we're the right fit before committing.

Who actually writes my resume?

One of our two senior writers — Jacquie Liversidge (Managing Director) or Marc Cayzer (Operations Manager). Whoever runs your information call is the same person who writes your resume, the same person who handles every revision, and the same person you contact if anything changes. No handoffs to junior writers, no offshore staff, no AI-generated drafts. You'll know whose name is on your engagement before any work begins.

Do I have to fill in a long form?

No — and this is one of the things that makes us different from most resume services. We don't send long online questionnaires or ask you to draft your own bullet points "for us to refine." A senior writer runs a one-hour information call with you, asks the questions that matter, and captures everything we need verbally. Forms produce flat content because the most relevant accomplishments rarely surface in single-line text fields. Conversation produces better material, more efficiently.

What happens if I want changes after the drafts arrive?

You have 14 days from delivery for unlimited revisions — no edit caps, no per-round fees, no "two rounds and you're done." Mark up the Word document, send it back, and we'll iterate as many times as the document needs to be right. The same writer handles every revision so context never gets lost. Most engagements settle in two or three review cycles.

What format do I receive my documents in?

Editable Word and PDF formats, delivered by email. The Word document is fully editable so you can update it yourself in future without breaking the formatting. We also send our 20-page Managing Your Documents and Your Next Career Steps guide with every engagement — it explains the structural decisions we made, how to update the documents going forward, and practical advice for managing a digital job hunt.

What if I don't get a job?

Our 90-day guarantee covers it: if you're not getting interview traction within 90 days of receiving your final documents, we'll rewrite them at no charge. Government applications are excluded as their evaluation timelines run separately and are outside our control, but everything else is covered. To be clear: this is a free-rewrite guarantee, not a money-back guarantee. Almost all our clients are interviewing within four to six weeks.

Can I choose which writer I work with?

Yes. You can book a 15-minute discovery call directly with either Jacquie or Marc — whichever fits your situation best. Jacquie leads our executive, SES and senior career-pivot work. Marc leads our APS, state government and B2B engagements. If you're not sure which is the right fit for you, book with either — they'll redirect you if your needs would be better served by the other. There's no commercial reason for either to insist on the wrong fit.

How do I get started?

Two paths. If you'd like to talk before committing, book a free 15-minute discovery call with either Jacquie or Marc — no obligation, no quote pressure. If you'd rather just request a quote, use our online quote form and we'll respond within two hours during business hours. Whichever path you choose, the next step is the one-hour information call where we capture everything we need to write your documents.
